SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men’s and women’s cross country teams continued to be recognized for their academic success as they were named members of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team, it was announced recently.

The men concluded the year with a 3.41 GPA, ranking them first out of three Sunshine State Conference School’s reporting. Florida Southern was second with a 3.39 GPA and the University of Tampa accumulated a 3.10 average.

Despite a lower grade-point-average (3.15), Adam’s State College was named Scholar Team of the Year for the second consecutive season. Their GPA, coupled with their finish in the NCAA Cross Country Championships gave the Grizzlies the edge.

It was no different on the women’s side, as an impressive showing at the NCAA Championships, teamed with a 3.38 GPA gave Adam’s State the title.

The Saint Leo women registered a 3.24 grade-point-average, placing them second of SSC school’s listed. Tampa and its 3.69 GPA ranked first, while the Moccasins of Florida Southern closed the semester with a 3.23.

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
