GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Both the Saint Leo men’s and women’s cross country teams concluded the University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational, Friday evening from the University of Florida Golf Course. The women finished 18th out of 23 teams that posted scores in their 5K trek, while the men’s team had individual finishers in their 8K course.

Freshman Jillian Browne was once again impressive for the Lions, concluding the race with the top women’s time of 21:09.35 and 97th place finish. Tanja Redmond placed 125th out of 251 runners with a time of 21:53.76. Allison Cary finished just out of the top-150, with a 161st place showing and a time of 23:05.60.

The top-three male finishers for SLU finished between the 30th and 31st minute. Matt Attal claimed the best individual performance on the men’s side, posting a 140th-place finish with a time of 30:12.30. Sophomore returner Michael Berry also stepped up for the Lions, crossing the line at 30:27.60. While freshman Eric Dirth was the next Lions’ finisher, placing 150th out of 190 runners with a time 30.34.50. Carson Holton was the fourth SLU runner to cross the finish line, compiling a time of 34:29.90.

Charlotte Browning of the University of Florida took home the individual title, concluding the event with a time of 17:25.08; 16 seconds in front of her nearest competitor. UF also took home the team crown with a team score of 18.

Embry-Riddle’s Evans Kirwa was the best overall finisher for the men, posting an 8K-best 24:21.10; four seconds ahead of Florida’s Anthony Morales. The individual effort on Kirwa’s part was not enough as Florida retained the men’s team title, as well with a score of 20.

Both teams take a week off before hitting the track again on October 2nd at the Invitational in Titusville, Fla. The women’s team will get underway at 6:25 EST with the men to follow shortly after.
