TAMPA, Fla. – The Saint Leo women’s cross country team finished eighth at the UT Early Bird Classic, finishing just two points out of a top seven finish. The Lions totaled 188 points on the muggy evening at the 5K course of Brandon Trails in Tampa, Fla.
The Lions top individual finisher was Freshman Kelsey Bradley (Denver, Colo.). Running in her first collegiate race, Bradley nearly broke a top 20 finish, as she ended with a time of 20:51.00, just four seconds out of the No. 20 slot. Allison Luthman (Ramstein, Germany) was the next Lions to cross the finish line clocking in with a time of 22:04.00.
Dana Graham (Tarpon Springs, Fla.) and Julie Carusone (High Springs, Fla.) both cracked the 4r minute marker, as Graham finished with a time of 22:58.00 and Carusone finished just one minute behind registering a time of 23:52.00.
Mindy Pierce was the sixth Lion to cross the tape with a time of 24:01.00 and senior Heather Laws (Dade City, Fla.) rounded out the Lions’ team with a final time of 25:22.00
The Lions vastly increased their standing from last seasons 11th place finish at the same event.
The women hit the course again September 13 in Melbourne, Fla. against Florida Tech. The gun is scheduled to go off at 7:30 a.m.
