Rampf again claims SSC Runner of the Week honors

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's cross country runner Colett Rampf earned her fourth Sunshine State Conference Runner of the Week award this season on Monday, earning the accolade after a dominating performance on Saturday at the Saint Leo Division II National Preview cross country meet.

Rampf crossed the finish line of the muddy 6K National Preview course in a time of 22:45.32, taking individual first-place honors. She finished one minute and 23 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor, Tampa's Claudia Cancello, who posted a time of 24:08.61. The course was the same one that will be used for the upcoming NCAA Division II South Region and national championship races, modified slightly to account for recent rain due to the passage of Hurricane Matthew.

Rampf paced Saint Leo to the team championship as well, with Saint Leo and the University of Tampa finishing in a 54-54 tie on points and winning the tiebreaker, 3-2.

The SSC Runner of the Week award is the 12th for Rampf in her three-year career at Saint Leo. The native of Premnitz, Germany, captured the honor four times during both her 2014 rookie season and her 2015 sophomore campaign.

The Lions are idle from competition this week as they rest and train for the upcoming championship races. The first of those is the 2016 Sunshine State Conference Cross Country Championships, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, in Melbourne, Fla.
