SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's cross country team closed out their 2013 regular season slate with a program best third place team finish at the Sunshine State Conference Championship meet Saturday morning. The team collected 86 points overall, with three runners finishing in the top-20.
Freshman Jelena Tancic led the squad, crossing the tape with a career best 6K time of 22:04. Tancic's finish placed her on the 2013 All-Championship Team, comprised of the top-10 runners from each race. The Erlangen, Germany native recorded the third-fastest 6K time in program history in her first ever SSC Championship race.
Andrea Maxwell and Natalie McCormick both finished with a time of 23:44, with Maxwell edging out McCormick by a few tenths of a second to place 15th, while McCormick grabbed the 16th fastest time and set a new personal best.
Kylie Fagan, Anet Milian, Ronja Jaeger, and Grace Lederer completed the course in a pack, with Fagan leading the way with a timeo f 24:43, good for 32nd overall. Milian was three seconds back with a time of 24:46, with Jaeger on her heels with a mark of 24:47. Lederer was 10 ticks back from Jaeger, finishing the course in 24:57.
The senior duo of Elyse Snyder and Lee Ann Antuna came in 37th and 38th, respectively. Snyder ran the event in 25:22, while Antuna finished three seconds back as the pair ran in their final SSC Championship race of their careers.
Elizabeth Bruty completed the race in 26:11, while Allison Knipe finished with a time of 28:07.
Nova Southeastern's Alexandria Palm took home individual honors in the race as she crossed the tape with a time of 21:50, and placed first out of 70 runners. The University of Tampa took home the team championship, finishing with 31 points.
The Lions return to action on November 9, when they run in the NCAA South Region Championship meet, hosted by the University of Tampa at the Sydney Dover Trails.
