Tancic Finishes Fourth as Lions Earn Tenth Place at National Catholic Championships

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Saint Leo women's cross country team made their first ever outing at the National Catholic Championships count, finishing in the top half of a 26 team field with a notable 10th place finish on Friday afternoon.

Freshman Jelena Tancic once again paced the Lions, crossing the line of the 5k course in 18:30.3 for a fourth place individual finish. 

Andrea Maxwell completed the course in 19:24.2, and earned 29th out of a total of 287 runners.

Freshman Natalie McCormick finished with a time of 20:24.6, with Anet Milian and Kylie Fagan close behind with times of 20:42.3 and 20:54.8, respectively.

Grace Lederer crossed the tape in 21:02.8, followed by Lee Ann Antuna with a time of 21:38.0 to complete the squad of seven to make the trip. 

This year's event marks the 34th time the Fighting Irish have hosted the race, and was a first of hopefully many for the Lions.  In total, 37 Catholic universities and colleges competed in the three races, with 27 schools hailing from the Division II, Division III or NAIA conferences.

Lewis University grabbed the non-division I title with 46 points, while Seton Hill and Aquinas College claiming second and third, respectively.  Individually, Emily Frith from Bellarmine claimed the top slot, finishing with a time of 17:42.5.

The Lions return to action on Friday, September 27, when they travel to Titusville, Fla. to participate in the FLrunners.com Invitational.  Start time is slated for 5:50 p.m.
