Second Place Finish Opens Lions’ 2013 Season on High Note
TAMPA, Fla. - Despite a lengthy weather delay that pushed the start time back over an hour, the Saint Leo women's cross country team opened their 2013 campaign with a successful start, crushing the competition and earning a second place team finish at The Claw golf course during the USF Bulls Cross Country Invitational, Friday evening.
Due to the late start time, both the men's and women's races were combined, with each group running a 5k loop simultaneously.
Jelena Tancic smoked the previous school record of 18:06.80 set by Tereza Novotna, crossing the line with a time of 17:23.85 and finishing second out of a field of 165. Anne-Marie Blaney of UCF took home the top slot, completing the course in 16:50.19.
Andrea Maxwell finished the route with a time of 18:42.68, good for 30th, while Natalie McCormick crossed the tape five spots back in 35th with a time of 18:51.73. Anet Milian completed the course in 19:35.64.
Kylie Fagan finished the route with a time of 20:11.38, with Grace Lederer finishing next for the Lions at the 20:38.42 mark. Shelby Adams was close behind with a time of 20:51.40, followed closely by Berline Waters, who opened her Saint Leo career with a 5k time of 21:09.91.
Allison Knipe was on Snyder's heels, completing the race in 21:52.02 to round out the squad.
Overall, the University of Tampa claimed the top spot, taking home 31 points. Saint Leo followed with 92 points, while Embry-Riddle collected third place with 97.
