Lions Impress at UNF Track Invitational
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's and women's cross country competed in their first official track meet of the spring season, Saturday afternoon from the University of North Florida Spring Break Invitational. Multiple Lions began the morning with a long 5000m run against competitive runners from all over the United States, and numerous Saint Leo runners earn top honors on the day.
"Overall we had solid performances over conference schools that also competed, it helps us gauge our strength for next fall," said head coach Melissa Miller-Mangen. "Valentin had a break through race and as a freshmen, there is no doubt that the 14:59 barrier is in reach for him."
In addition, women's senior Jillian Browne jumpstarted her final track season with a personal best time in the 5000m event.
"Jill sets a good example of stepping outside her comfort zone everyday at practice and her PR reflects hard work and commitment over four years," said Miller-Mangen. "Her first words after the race where, 'I did it!'"
The Lions get back in action on Friday, Mar. 8, when they head to the University of South Florida to participate in their second track of the spring season.
