Women's Cross Country Collects 15th-Place Finish at FSU Invitational
TALLAHASEE, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's cross country team took home a 15th-place finish Friday evening from the Florida State University Invitational. The 6K race, which took at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla., marks the Lions' fifth race of the season.
It was senior Jillian Brown who collected top honors and led the Lions to the end of the course as she crossed the tape with a time of 24:22.8. The 56th-place finish marks her fifth consecutive race as the top runner for the Lions.
Following just seconds behind Browne was junior runner Andrea Maxwell, who completed the 6K race with a time of 24.44.3. Coming in third place for the Lions was junior Elyse Snyder, who crossed the finish line with a time of 25:18.1 and finished 88th in the group, while Freshman Kylie Fagan finished just steps behind with a time of 25:23.2.
Runners Lee Ann Antuna (26:55.3), Kelsey Bradley (27:16.1), Ashleigh Coad (28:30.5), and Shelby Adams (28:39.8) also had strong finishes for the Lions, while Mariah Moss (29:34.7) and Allison Knipe (29:53.9) rounded up the Saint Leo effort with solid races.
Despite the strong Saint Leo finish, the host team of Florida State University took home team championship title as they finished with a total of 72 points. Stephanie Ledgerwood from Southern Miss, however, took home the individual title as she finished the 6K race with a time of 21:01.3.
The Lions will return to the course on Friday, October 12, when they travel to Orlando, Fla. to compete in the UCF Invitational. The race is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
