Women's Cross Country Team Again Notches Regional Ranking
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Saint Leo women's cross country team once again earned regional recognition on Tuesday as they were regionally ranked eighth in the south region according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The first ranking came just one week ago.
The Lions, who gained eight freshman runners at the beginning of the season, have competed in three races so far this year. At the University of Tampa Early Bird Invitational, the Lions finished with a season-best 7th place finish. Their next race, which took place at the University of South Florida, featured a 9th place finish, while their most recent meet, the University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational, saw a 14th place finish.
After two weeks of training without a formal race, the Lions will host their only home meet of the season this coming Saturday, when they race at the Saint Leo Abbey Golf Course. The race is the first home match for the Lions in five years.
USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
The NCAA Division II Regional Championships will be held on Saturday, November 3 and Sunday, November 4.
