Women’s Cross Country Finishes 13th at Wide World of Sports

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's cross country team continued to show steady improvement as they to finished 13th (386 pts.) at the 2011 Walt Disney World Classic 5K, Saturday morning from a rainy Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista.

It marked the final regular season run for the squad as they now begin preparations for the 2011 Sunshine State Conference Championships.

SSC Tampa finished as the top school in the 28-team competition, closing the race with 48 points. Meanwhile, Florida Atlantic's Michelle Jax won individual honors with a pace of 18:08.90.

Holding top honors for the fifth time this season was Tereza Novotna. Novotna finished sixth-of-259 runners with a time of 18:40.90.

A steady Jillian Browne also made her mark for the squad as finished under the 20-minute mark for the fifth time in 2011, closing with a time of 19:54.30 and in 34th-place.

Freshman Amanda Leon continued to show her improvement as she placed in the top third of competitors with an 82nd-place finish at 20:46.20.

Freshman teammate Holly Blackburn also made her presence known as she finished in the top half of the field with a closing time of 21:27.20.

Kali Carney crossed the tape at just a tick under 24 minutes at 23:59.80, and Elyse Snyder added the Lions' impressive performance with a performance of 24:42.10.

Melissa Goldstein put the finishing touches on the team's afternoon as she placed ahead of four other conference competitors with a time of 27:07.20

The Lions will return to course on Saturday, October 22, when they travel to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. to compete in the SSC Championships.
