Cross Country Earns Regional Recognition

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Each off to solid early starts in the 2011 campaign, both the Saint Leo men's and women's cross country teams have earned places in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Region Polls, it was announced Tuesday.

The men maintained their preseason 10th-place ranking thanks to impressive team times at the Early Bird Classic and the University of South Florida Invitational.

Overall, Florida Tech owns the top spot in the region, jumping eight spots from last week's region list. In total, four Sunshine State Conference teams rank in the top-10.

The women, on the other hand, went from not being ranked in the preseason to obtaining the highest placement for the squad in program history, seventh. The Lions jumped over the likes of Palm Beach Atlantic, Alabama-Huntsville, and SSC foe Florida Tech.

Tampa, Nova Southeastern, and Florida Southern make up the top three in the south region.

Both Lions' teams will return to the course on Saturday, September 24, when they head to Gainesville, Fla. to compete in the Mountain Dew Invitational. The women will begin the meet at 8:00 a.m. For the latest news, information, and updates on the men's and women's cross country team, visit SaintLeoLions.com.
