WINTER PARK, Fla. - For the second straight week, Saint Leo freshman Tereza Novotna has been named the Sunshine State Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, it was announced Monday by SSC Commissioner Jay Jones.
Novotna, a native of Opocno, Czech Republic, finished seventh of 142 runners at last Friday's USF Invitational.
Novotna posted a 5K time of 18:06.83, breaking her own program record from a week earlier. She was also the top SSC runner in a 13-team field that featured four of the league's six teams.
In addtion, Novotna defeated more than 40 Division I competitors.
Novotna is the first cross country student-athlete to earn back-to-back SSC Runner of the Week awards.
After taking a week off, the Lions will hit the course again on Saturday, September 24, in Gainesville, Florida for the Mountain Dew Invitational. The early morning run is set for 8:30 a.m. For the latest news, information, and updates on the women's cross country team, visit SaintLeoLions.com.
