Women's Cross Country Places 11th at USF Invite

TAMPA, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's cross country totaled 251 points as they finished in 11th-place at the USF Invitational 5K, Friday afternoon from The Claw Golf Course on the University of South Florida campus.

Highlighting the Lions' run was reining Sunshine State Conference Runner of the Week, Tereza Novotna, as she finished seventh-of-142 runners. Novotna, for the second consecutive week, finished as the top SSC runner with a time of 18:06.83.

The time also breaks her own school record that she set last week at the UT Early Bird Classic.

The freshman was only 25 seconds off the lead pace and defeated more than 40 Division I runners.

Jillian Browne also made an impact for the squad as she broke the 20-minute mark finishing 44th with a time of 19:49.41.

Amanda Leon also found herself around the 20-minute barrier as the freshman finished 56th with a time of 20:11.33. Meanwhile, freshman cohort Holly Blackburn crossed the line with a time of 20:27.35.

Kali Carney and McKenzie Kaylor put the finishing touches on the Lions' run as they broke the tape at 23:09.20 and 26:17.84, respectively.

After taking a week off, the Lions will hit the course again on Saturday, September 24, in Gainesville, Florida for the Mountain Dew Invitational. The early morning run is set for 8:30 a.m. For the latest news, information, and updates on the women's cross country team, visit SaintLeoLions.com.
