LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the first time in program history, the Saint Leo volleyball team has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

Saint Leo was one of 119 schools in Division II to be honored as they earned a 3.306 GPA in the year. The Lions were one of seven Sunshine State Conference teams honored.

Along with their first AVCA team academic award, the Lions also won their first out-right Sunshine State Conference Title in 2016-17 with a 12-4 SSC record. The Lions then went on to earn the No. 2 seed in the NCAA South Regional, making their fourth-straight NCAA appearance.
