SAINT LEO, Fla. – Seniors Jamee Townsend and Hope Lemon were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-South Region team on Wednesday, as picked by a committee of coaches from the South Region.
Townsend earns her second regional honor within the same amount of days as she recently received a D2CCA All-South Region honor, while this marks Lemon's first regional honor of her career.
Lemon has been the leading point scorer for the Lions this season, averaging 3.9 points per set. She scores most of her points on the attack, as she puts down 3.31 kills per set, but she also sneaks additional points off her serve, having scored a team-high 45 aces this season. The outside from Cedar Park, Texas, has tallied 358 kills this season, moving her career total to 1,082, moving her to fifth all-time in Saint Leo records. Lemon was also named to the All-Sunshine State Conference First Team following the regular season.
Townsend was also named to the All-SSC First Team, and earned three SSC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season. She tallied 627 digs this season and has moved her career total to 1,375, good for third all-time in Saint Leo history. The libero from Plant City, Fla., led the SSC in digs per set with 5.36 on the season, and in SSC-only play, she increased her per set average to 5.42.
The Lions return to action as the No. 2 seed in the NCAA South Region Tournament when they head to No. 1 seed and host Palm Beach Atlantic on Thursday to take on the No. 7 seed Florida Southern at 2:30 p.m.
