Volleyball's Townsend named to D2CCA All-South Region First Team

FLORENCE, Ala. – Saint Leo women's volleyball senior Jamee Townsend was named to the 2016 Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-South Region First Team announced Tuesday morning.

Townsend was the lone libero named to the First Team and was one of just three Sunshine State Conference members to earn a First Team nod.  Lynn's Marissa Tandron filled the lone setter slot, while Tampa's Allee Stelogeannis was picked for one of the three outside/opposite positions.

Townsend named to 2016 All-SSC First Team as the only libero, and it was rightfully so as she led the conference in digs per set at 5.36 in overall statistics, and 5.42 in league play. She has tallied 13 performances with 20 or more digs, and five performances over 30, including scooping up a career-high 36 digs twice this year.

The Plant City, Fla., native helped the Lions hold SSC opponents to just .157 hitting percentage on the entire year, to lead the conference. She also helped guide the Lions to their first outright SSC title in program history as one of the team captains.

This marks Townsend's first All-South Region honor of her career.

The Lions return to action as the No. 2 seed in the NCAA South Region Tournament when they head to No. 1 seed and host Palm Beach Atlantic on Thursday to take on the No. 7 seed Florida Southern at 2:30 p.m.
