Volleyball earns the No. 2 seed in the NCAA South Regional

SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Saint Leo volleyball team finished the regular season on Saturday evening, and on Monday evening, they found out their post-season fate. The Lions ended up as the South Region No. 2 seed and will face No. 7 seed Florida Southern in the NCAA South Regional hosted by the No. 1 seed, Palm Beach Atlantic.

This is the fourth-straight season that the Lions have earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Last year, the Lions fell to host Palm Beach Atlantic, 3-2 in the South Region Second Round. In 2014, the Lions fell to Valdosta State, 3-2, and in 2013, the Lions fell by the same set total to conference foe Florida Southern.

This marks the second-straight season that Palm Beach Atlantic has earned the No. 1 seed and the opportunity to host.

Saint Leo is has proven to be a balanced squad this season, seeing six different players lead the team in kills throughout the season. Hope Lemon led with 15 matches as the kill leader, which helped her to lead the team in kills on the season with 358. Britt Sederholm follows with seven matches as the leader, including the final three of the regular season. Freshman opposite Victoria Omoregie led six times, while Avery Bradshaw has led twice. Setter Maddy Powell and middle Katie Adamson each have led once.

The Lions are one of four Sunshine State Conference teams to make the NCAA South Regional. Tampa took the No. 3 spot, while Lynn jumped to take the No. 6 spot. Florida Southern fell in at with the No. 7 seed.

Saint Leo has a 5-5 record against the South Region field this season. Against PBA, the Lions are 0-2, falling 3-0 at home, and closing out the season with a 3-1 loss at Palm Beach Atlantic. For the first time, Saint Leo finished the regular season with a 2-0 record against Tampa, and against Lynn and Florida Southern, the Lions split the season. Against the two Gulf South Conference opponents, the Lions are 1-1 after falling to West Florida, 3-0, at the South Region Crossover, and taking a 3-2 win over North Alabama at the SRC. The Lions did not play the No. 8 seed, Kentucky State, this season.

The schedule for the tournament will be determined in the upcoming days.
