SSC Release

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference announced the 2016 All-SSC awards on Tuesday, and the Saint Leo volleyball team was well-represented as they landed two on the All-SSC First Team, one on the All-SSC Newcomer Team, and head coach Sam Cibrone was named the 2016 Coach of the Year.

This marks the second-straight year that Cibrone earned the Coach of the Year honor and his third overall. Cibrone guided his squad to a 12-4 SSC record and the outright title as SSC Champions for the first time. He also led his team to a program-first sweep of conference foe Tampa. The Lions also tallied five wins over Top-25 opponents on the season

The Lions landed two on the First Team, and they were the only school to do so. Senior Hope Lemon and Jamee Townsend were both honored by the conference coaches. Townsend was a 2015 All-SSC Second Team selection, while Lemon was named to the Honorable Mention list in 2015. Freshman Annabella Arcari was named to the All-SSC Newcomer team in her first season as a Lion.

Townsend was the lone libero to earn First Team honors. In 2016, she has averaged 5.36 digs per set and led in conference-only play as well with 5.42. Townsend currently has 1,375 digs in her career, third all-time in Saint Leo history. This season she has tallied 13 performances with 20 or more digs, and five performances over 30, including scooping up a career-high 36 digs twice. She also helped the Lions hold SSC opponents to just .157 hitting on the entire year, which was tops in the conference.

Lemon was the leading point scorer for the Lions in 2016, tallying 426.5 points, most of which came from her kill total of 358. Lemon led the Lions in kills in 15 matches. She opened the season strong and was named to the 2016 NSU Shark Invitational All-Tournament Team. She had four double-doubles so far this season and had registered 20 10-plus kill performances this season.

Arcari played in all 31 matches for the Lions and had tallied 163 kills and 94 blocks so far this year. She leads the team in blocks per set at 0.95, and is hitting .299 on the year, and hit .331 in SSC play. Her .331 in conference play leads the league. Her blocks per set rank third in the SSC overall.

The Lions, who were picked as the No. 2 seed in the NCAA South Regional, will take on Florida Southern, the No. 7 seed, on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 2:30 p.m., on the campus of Palm Beach Atlantic, the No. 1 seed.
