Volleyball falls to Barry, 3-2

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team dropped its' second straight five-set match as the Lions fell, 3-2; 26-24, 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 13-15, to the host Barry Buccaneers on Saturday evening.

The Lions looked strong as they hoped to bounce back from a tough five-set loss to Lynn on Friday night. Saint Leo put down 20 kills on .439 hitting in the first set and looked to be in command.

However, in the second set, it was mistake driven scoring, as both teams performed sub-par. The Lions put down 12 kills while hitting only .085, but Barry hit .000 and only put down 10 kills.

Heading into the intermission, the Lions looked to have the advantage with a 2-0 lead.

However, Barry, on Senior Night, had other ideas.

Barry came out and ground out three-straight wins to take down the Lions.

Saint Leo saw three players hit in double-digits. Hope Lemon put down 15 kills, adding six digs and four blocks, while Annabella Arcari tallied 11 kills on 0.429 hitting, adding two blocks. Avery Bradshaw put down 10 kills in just three sets on a .308 clip on the outside.

Freshman Anna Garrett dished out 53 assists while adding 13 digs and four kills.

On the defensive side of things, Jamee Townsend recorded 27 digs and added four assists. Jenya Kruglova added nine digs, while Victoria Omoregie scooped up eight and added two blocks. Katie Adamson led the team with five blocks on the evening.

Saint Leo finished the match with a higher hitting percentage than the Bucs, 0.204 to .0192, but Barry dished out eight service aces, while the Lions made 10 service errors.

The Lions are now 18-10, 10-4 in league play. They return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. with the Hurricane Matthew-forced rescheduled match with Barry.
