Volleyball falls to #12 Palm Beach Atlantic

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team was upended by the No. 12 Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Friday night in non-conference action at the Marion Bowman Activities Center, 3-0; 25-12, 25-23, 25-19.

The Sailfish jumped on the Lions earn, putting away 15 kills as a team in the first set on a clip of .400. They also used an 83-percent side-out percentage to take care of things in serve receive. The Lions were only able to register four kills in the set and hit -.154 as a team.

In the second set, the Lions were more aggressive, putting away 12 kills, six from freshman Annabella Arcari. Arcari put down six of her seven attempts, error-free. She also added two blocks. PBA was able to ward off the Lions as they used three team blocks and 16 digs to keep the ball alive and put down 12 kills of their own and take the tight set, 25-23.

In the third set, Saint Leo saw Jamee Townsend nearly double her dig total for the match as she only had six digs entering the final set. She tallied 11 digs in the third set along and did her best to keep the ball alive for the offense. Saint Leo saw Hope Lemon put down five kills in the third set, and Avery Bradshaw added three. The Sailfish returned to their hot-hitting, putting down a clip of .268 with 13 kills. They also added four blocks as a team.

Townsend finished the match with 17 digs and led the match. Lemon added nine kills for the Lions, while both Katie Adamson and Arcari added six kills out of the middle. Maddy Powell dished out 12 assists, while Anna Garrett added 11.

Saint Leo returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 22 with a 4 p.m. match against Nova Southeastern in the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
