Volleyball falls at the hands of the Argos

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team hit a speed bump on Friday afternoon when they ran into West Florida at the South Region Crossover at the Orlando Sports Center, falling 3-0; 28-26, 25-19, 25-11.

Saint Leo was down 7-1 in the opening set but fought their way back, and even took a 24-22 lead. However, West Florida would not relent and took the set, 28-26. This acted as an omen for the rest of the match for the Lions as over the next two sets; UWF had their way offensively. In the second set, the Argos hit .294, putting down 14 kills, and in the third set, they increased their effectiveness to .312.

The Lions saw Annabella Arcari put down seven kills on a clip of .467, and Katie Adamson added four kills on a clip of .571 out of the middle. Arcari added a match-high seven blocks as well.

Hope Lemon added eight kills, three service aces, and four blocks. Maddy Powell dished out 18 assists, while Anna Garret added eight.

Defensive, Reggie Van Devender scooped up a career-best 13 digs, while Jamee Townsend added 11.

The Lions return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. as they take on Valdosta State in their second match of the 2016 South Region Crossover.
