Volleyball sweeps Panthers on the road

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team took down Florida Tech, 3-1; 25-12, 25-19, 25-21, on the Panthers home court in Sunshine State Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions, 9-5, 3-2 SSC, used a highly efficient first set to jump on the Panthers early. Offensively, the Lions hit a clip .476, putting down 12 kills and only committing two errors. In complete opposite form, the Panthers hit .000, putting down eight kills, and committing eight errors.

Saint Leo continued to shut down the Panthers' offense through the next two sets. In the second set, the hit just .023, and in the third, .161. The Lions scooped up 43 digs on defense and put down 10 blocks as a team, led by freshman Annabella Arcari, who stuffed six, with one solo, and five assists.

 Junior Britt Sederholm led the match with 10 kills, doing it in proficient fashion, committing just one error in 26 attempts for a .346-hitting percentage. Joining in the offense was setter Maddy Powell who tallied six kills on 13 attempts, for a clip of .385, and Victoria Omoregie added six as well. Senior Katie Adamson tallied four kills on seven attempts for a clip pf .571, adding three blocks to her stat line. Powell ran the offense, dishing out 26 assists.

Senior Jamee Townsend dug up 12 balls and now sits just two digs away from 1,000 for her career. Junior Hannah Pietz added nine digs, while Reggie Van Devender, Sederholm, and Powell each added six.

The Lions return home on Friday, Oct. 7 to take on SSC foe Barry at 7 p.m. in the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
