Powell's offense leads Saint Leo Volleyball to 3-0 sweep

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team saw junior Maddy Powell have an excellent all-around performance to help the Lions to a 3-0; 25-20, 25-16, 25, 17, sweep of the visiting Embry-Riddle Eagles on Saturday afternoon in the Marion Bowman Activities Center.

Powell put on a show on Friday evening, nearly recording a triple-double in the match. The 5-10 junior setter dished out 25 assists to her teammates while scooping up 10 digs. She also added nine impressive kills for the Lions on a clip of .615.

The right-side of the court seemed to work for the Lions as they saw freshman opposite Victoria Omoregie add nine kills while chipping in five blocks, including one solo.

Sophomore Avery Bradshaw followed with six kills on the day, adding three digs and two blocks, while freshman Annabella Arcari added five kills and a match-high six blocks.

Defensively, senior Jamee Townsend led the match with 14 kills and is now 27 shy from her 1,000th career dig.

Over the match, the Lions defense held the Eagles to just .010 hitting and only 23 kills.

Saint Leo, now 8-4 overall, went 2-0 in their home opening weekend, following a 3-2 win over Sunshine State Conference foe Rollins on Friday night as well.

The Lions will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 27 with a 7 p.m. match on the road as they head to St. Petersburg to take on the Tritons of Eckerd.
