Volleyball tops #8 Lewis, 3-1

DENVER, Colo. – The Saint Leo volleyball team took down No. 8 Lewis on Friday evening in a four-set match, beating the Flyers, 25-16, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, in the final match of pool play on the opening day of the Colorado Premier Challenge.

The Lions were able to jump on the Flyers early, and from there they commanded the match. Even in the third set, Saint Leo played even with the nationally-ranked Flyers, and they didn't let the loss affect them.

Saint Leo was led offensively by junior Britt Sederholm, who tallied a match-high 21 kills on an impressive clip of .419 for the outside. Joining her in double figures was fellow outside hitter senior Hope Lemon. Lemon tallied 13 kills. Freshman setter Anna Garrett dished out 33 assists to help the Lions offense get back on track.

Defensively, the Lions were able to hold Lewis to just .128 hitting, led by senior libero Jamee Townsend who scooped up a match-high 17 digs.

This is the second-straight weekend the Lions have picked up a win over a national-ranked opponent. Last weekend at the Nova Southeastern Sharks Invitational, the Lions took down No. 11 Rockhurst, 3-2.

The Lions, who finished in second place in Pool 3 with a 1-1 record, will face the second-place team of Pool 2 at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon. Their opponent will be determined following the end of the final matches of the day.
