MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – In their final regular season contest, the Saint Leo volleyball team defeated the Barry University Buccaneers by a 3-0 score, Saturday afternoon at the Bucs' home court in Miami Shores, Fla. The pivotal Sunshine State Conference win improved the Lions' overall record to 23-10 on the year, and extended their postseason hopes.
Much like last night's contest at Florida Tech, the Lions' squad took control in the first set and never looked back, defeating the Bucs in a straight 3-0 sweep.
For one of the first times this season, senior middle blocker Jordan Sisson led the Lions in kills in the contest, collecting 12 in the victory and leading the team with her .588 hitting percentage. In addition, junior Tawni Warren notched 11 kills in the victory, while juniors Alexa Griffith-Hardy and Lauren Campbell each tallied six. Griffith-Hardy, who hit for .500 on the afternoon, earned the second-highest attack percentage for the Lions in the win.
From her setter role on the court, senior Jaclyn Mailoto earned 40 assists in the match to give her an astounding 1,323 assists this regular season. Defensively, she also collected 10 digs in the contest to lead the Lions. Warren followed suit with nine digs.
As a team, the Lions hit for a .298 attack percentage in the match, holding the Bucs to just a .070 percentage.
The Saint Leo volleyball team will now await word regarding a selection to the NCAA South Region tournament. Their 10-6 record in the Sunshine State Conference earned them a 3rd place finish.
