SAINT LEO, Fla. – Less than 24 hours after earning their 20th win of the year, the Saint Leo women's volleyball team pounded home a 3-0 win over the visiting Lynn Fighting Knights to improve to 21-9 on the season. The triumph came on the Lions' Senior Day,
After a 25-14 first set win, the Lions grabbed a hold of their offensive momentum and cruised home to a quick three-set victory (25-14, 25-20, 25-15).
Junior Lauren Campbell led the offensive effort with 13 kills on the night, but it was senior Meghan Donovan who blasted home ten kills for an outstanding .833 attack percentage. Junior Alexa Griffith-Hardy, who hit for .368 on the afternoon, collected nine kills in the match.
Defensively, the Saint Leo squad collected 55 digs, thanks in large part to a 19-dig effort from junior libero Yaidimar Santiago. Campbell also notched nine digs in the win, as the Lions held Lynn to just a .068 hitting percentage.
Before the match, head coach Sam Cibrone and his assistants honored the 2013 senior class with their traditional senior gifts. In front of the home crowd, seniors Molly Alexander, Meghan Donovan, Jaclyn Mailoto, and Jordan Sission were celebrated for their dedication and contributions to the Saint Leo volleyball team.
The Lions will return to action on Tuesday, November 19, when they host the visiting Eckerd College Tritons for their final home match of the 2013 regular season. The contest is set to begin at 6 p.m.
