SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's volleyball defeated the visiting Florida Southern Mocs in a Tuesday night Sunshine State contest by a score of 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-16). The win pushed the Lions to the second position in the Sunshine State Conference race.
The Lions took an early 3-0 lead in set one, but Florida Southern bounced back to lead 11-6. Eventually, the Lions and Mocs tied the set at 13-13, but after trailing 24-23, Saint Leo rebounded with three straight points to take the set win, 26-24.
Despite falling behind early in the second set, the Lions returned from a 4-1 deficit to force a seven point lead. The momentum spurred an offensive attack that would not allow Saint Leo to be beat, as they took home a 25-20 set victory.
With a 2-0 lead in their favor, the Lions retired to the eight-minute break. Upon their return, an exciting battle between Saint Leo and Florida Southern ensued, as the Lions took home a 25-16 set win.
Offensively, Alexa Griffith-Hardy, Lauren Campbell, and Tawni Warren all notched 11 kills for the Lions, propelling Saint Leo to a .237 attack percentage. In addition, senior Jordan Sisson tallied nine kills and hit for .533, while Jaclyn Mailoto collected 42 assists, cruising to 14 assists per set.
On the defensive side of the game, Saint Leo collected eight blocks and 72 total digs, as Tawni Warren and Yaidimar Santiago led both teams with 17 digs each.
The Lions will return to action on Friday, Nov. 1 when they host the visiting Warner Royals. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Bowman Center.
