ALLENDALE, Mich. – After splitting two games in the first day of action at the Grand Valley Laker tournament, the Lions ended day two with a 1-1 split. After taking home a four-set win against Adelphi, the Lions fell in three sets to the Wayne State Warriors.
With two afternoon games before them, the Lions took to the court quickly, defeating the Adelphi Panthers in just four sets (25-18, 21-25, 25-18, 25-21). After making her debut with the Lions yesterday, freshman Hope Lemon again led the Lion in kills, notching 22 in the first match of the day. In addition to Lemon's efforts, juniors Tawni Warren and Lauren Campbell also collected ten and nine kills, respectively. Senior Meghan Donovan and sophomore Jillian Stolzenburg tallied eight kills in the win, contributing to the Lions .370 kill percentage. Senior setter Jaclyn Mailoto led the team in assists with 52, earning her more than 170 assists in just three matches this season.
Immediately after the Lion's win over Adelphi, the green and gold took the court against Wayne State Warriors and their momentum was slowed. The Warriors program allowed only 20 Saint Leo kills in the match.
For the weekend, the Lions only two losses came to well-established Division II programs.
After a few days rest, the Lions will return to action on Friday, Sep. 13 when they head to Boca Raton, Fla. for the Courtyard Boca Raton Invitational hosted by conference rival Lynn University.
