SAINT LEO, Fla—The Saint Leo University women's volleyball team (10-15, 2-11 SSC) fell to the Rollins College Tars (15-13, 6-6 SSC) on Friday night at the Marion Bowman Activities Center by a score of 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 29-27).

The Lions opened up the first set with a 5-2 lead, but the Tars quickly snatched the momentum and rattled off 11 of the next 15 points to take a 13-9 lead. The game then turned into a back and forth matchup with the Lions cutting the Tars' lead to 21-19. Rollins scored four out of the next five points to take the first set by a score of 25-20.

In the second set, the Lions once again started off hot, taking six of the first eight points on route to an 8-3 lead. Near the midway point of the set, Rollins tallied three straight points to cut the Saint Leo lead to 14-12, but the Lions provided an answer right back, scoring the next three straight to take a 17-12 lead and keep the Tars an arm's length away.

Rollins found a spark though, and rallied to win seven of the next eight points to take their first lead of the second set. After trailing 21-20 the Lions won the race to 25 and tied the match at one set a piece after Meghan Donovan's fifth kill of the set. Jacklyn Mailoto led the set with eight assists.

The Lions started the third set in a very similar fashion to the first two sets, jumping out to an 8-7 lead. A span in the middle of the set where the Tars scored eight of 10 points allowed them to gain a 20-17 lead on the Lions. The Tars then scored the final five points of the set to claim a 25-21 win and take a 2-1 set lead in the match.

In the fourth and eventual decisive set, the Tars jumped out to a lead 4-3 lead to start the set but the Lions scored  the next 11 of 15 points to take a comfortable 14-8 lead. The Tars continued to put pressure on the Lions, as they scored six of eight points over one span to cut the Lions' lead to 21-20. A thrilling last few minutes of the game saw the Tars win six of eight points at one point, and four of the last five to win the set 29-27.

Sami Vierk led the Lions with 17 kills. Jaclyn Mailoto accumulated 37 assists in the match.
