Saint Leo Volleyball Drops 5-Set Match to Lynn Fighting Knights

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team dropped a regular season match to the Lynn University Fighting Knights in the conference matchup by a score of 3-2 (25-21, 26-24, 19-25, 13-25, 9-15), Sunday afternoon from Boca Raton, Fla.

The match started with two close wins from the Lions (10-12, 2-8 SSC), who defeated the host Fighting Knights (13-9, 2-7 SSC) and sent them into the first break feeling nervous. After they returned, the Fighting Knights dominated the rest of the match, winning three consecutive sets to give the Lions yet another loss.

Despite the loss, Saint Leo still finished with an attack rate of.106. In addition freshman Tayler Hegg notched 11 digs and eight kills, while senior Sami Vierk had 15 kills and seven blocks in the effort. As a team, the Lions had 70 digs and eight aces, while the Fighting Knights finished with 66 digs and nine aces.

Angie Caple and Lizzy Raffa led the Fighting Knights attack with their numerous contributions. With an attach percentage of .588, Caple collected 22 kills, and four blocks. Meanwhile, her teammate, Raffa, gathered 15 kills and seven blocks, as well as an attacking rate of .375.

Saint Leo looks to rebound when they take on the University of Tampa Spartans on Friday, Nov. 2 from the Lions' home court in the Saint Leo University Marion Bowman Activities Center. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
