BOLIVAR, Mo. – Similar to last weekend, the Saint Leo volleyball team repeated their first day's performance as they went 1-1 in the final day of the SBU Purple Bash hosted by Southwest Baptist University. The Lions dropped their morning game to Harding University 3-0, before coming back to defeat Northwestern Oklahoma State 3-0 in the early afternoon.
Finding themselves with an early slate of games before an early flight back, a slow start against Harding saw the opposing Bison take early command of the match. It was control that Harding would not relinquish in the 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-20) defeat.
Quickly regrouping, the Lions took to the SBU main court for the only time in their four matches in dominating Northwestern Oklahoma State 3-0 (25-12, 28-26, 25-17). The Saint Leo defense held the Rangers to just a .027 hitting percentage. It was a match against a first-year team that allowed Coach Sam Cibrone to use some reserves to gain some experience before beginning conference play.
In total, the Lions went 2-2 for the tournament and returned home late Saturday night.
