Lions Drop Senior Day Tilt to Florida Southern

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team came out on the wrong end of a straight-sets sweep to visiting Florida Southern after the Mocs walked away with a 25-20, 25-15, 25-19 sweep in Sunshine State Conference action on Senior Night from the Bowman Center.

After honoring their three seniors, the Lions (12-14, 5-9 SSC) came out flat as they hit just .094 in the initial set.  With the Moccasins (14-12, 8-5 SSC) grabbing the advantage, the Lions could not recover from a night where the visitors from Lakeland hit .322 and sided out at a 72 percent clip.

No Lion managed to hit in double figures with senior Danielle Bletso leading the way after dropping down eight successful attacks and rebounding from a rough first set to hit .250, a team high average.  Senior Emily Calderon-Reyes notched 12 digs while the third senior, Corey Ryan, added 11 digs.

For the Mocs, Lauren Huber was one of two Florida Southern players to tally double figures in kills as she posted 12.  Kate Stromberg quietly added 11 to the team total.

With the home portion of their schedule completed, the Lions will travel to St. Petersburg on Saturday morning for a neutral site game against the University of North Alabama. The match is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m. at the McArthur Center on the campus of Eckerd College.  For the latest news, updates, and information on Lions Volleyball, visit SaintLeoLions.com.
