Lions Drop Straight-Sets Decision to Rollins
SAINT LEO, Fla. – The visiting Rollins College Tars' attack proved to be just too much for Saint Leo as the Lions dropped a 25-22, 25-23, 25-17 decision in Sunshine State Conference action on Wednesday night from the Bowman Center. The loss snapped a four game win-streak for Saint Leo.
The Tars (20-7, 8-2 SSC) controlled the majority of the match with their three dominant players, Megan Hodges, Kelly Meridith and Camille Indest all having big games. The Lions (12-11, 5-6 SSC) gave up a 12-2 run in set two only to rally to within one at 24-23, but a Hodges kill closed out the game. Rollins would control game three to put the period on the end of the SSC match.
38 of the Tars' 47 kills came from three visitors as Hodges posted 17, Merideth had 11 and Indest added 10. As a team, Rollins hit .310 as Indest hit .450 with just one error.
The opponents don't get any easier for the Lions as they move past the South Region's No. 2 team and now look toward Division II's top-ranked team in the Tampa Spartans. The Lions and Spartans will get underway on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
