WINTER PARK, Fla. - Saint Leo middle blocker Danielle Bletso has been named the Sunshine State Conference's Defensive Player of the Week after her impressive performances against Nova Southeastern and Florida Tech last week, league officials announced Monday.
The Boardman, Ohio native averaged 1.6 blocks and 0.9 digs per set to help lift the Lions to two SSC wins as Saint Leo pulled above .500 in 2011. Bletso had 12 kills, two digs, and four blocks in a four-set win over Nova Southeastern. She then covered a lot of court in a four-set victory at Florida Tech, collecting seven kills, five digs, and nine blocks in the contest. Bletso's defensive efforts helped SLU limit its opponents to a .140 hitting percentage.
This marks the first conference player of the week honor for Saint Leo Volleyball this season.
Bletso and the rest of the Lions will return to action on Wednesday evening when they host Rollins College. The match is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. in the Marion Bowman Activities Center on the Saint Leo campus.
