SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team saved two match points against them, but ultimately could not gain the upper hand as they lost an exciting five-set match to visiting Lynn University 25-23, 25-21, 25-23, 24-26, 15-13 in Sunshine State Conference action on Friday night.
It was a match that saw the Lions show some serious resiliency in set four as Saint Leo was down to their final point at 24-22. Saint Leo (6-7, 2-3 SSC) staved off the visitors from Boca Raton and ran the table, using two Jordan Sisson kills to push for the set four win.
The Lions led set five 7-5 before going cold, allowing Lynn (9-5, 3-2 SSC) to rack up the next six points to take a commanding 11-7 lead in the short deciding game. Again, the resiliency shined as the Lions pushed back to 14-13 and held possessions multiple times on what proved to be the deciding rally. The comeback would remain unfinished as Lynn setter Abby Brokop finished things off with a kill in the middle of the court that was well-placed as she put a period on the thriller.
Four Lions were in double figures as the team hit .204 overall. Jordan Sisson slammed down 15 kills and only had one error to hit .519, while Danielle Blesto hit .379 with 16 kills for the Green and Gold. Emily Calderon-Reyes added 14 kills and 13 digs as she saved points for the Lions on multiple occasions.
Bletso also blocked six total attacks and the Lions outblocked Lynn 13-to-8.
Lynn was led by a dominant performance from 6'4" Brittany Brown who posted a game-high 18 kills. Shannon Dugan added 16 successful attacks in the Fighting Knight victory.
