SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team had their four-match win streak snapped as the visiting West Florida Argonauts downed the Lions in straight sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-18) to claim the NCAA South Region contest at the Marion Bowman Activities Center on Saturday afternoon.
Each set told the same story as the Lions fell behind early in the set and attempted to rally back. The rally would be cut short in each set by untimely errors and clutch kills from the visitors. It proved to be a match where the Lions spent a majority of time on their heels trying to recover from the young Argo attack.
After a big Sunshine State Conference win over Florida Tech last night, the Lions were brought back to Earth with the loss, one where they only hit .070. Freshman Lauren Campbell finished as the leader in attacks with seven kills while Alexa Reed chipped in with 20 assists.
Coming off the bench in set one, senior Danielle Bletso posted two solo blocks and helped on two others.
Lindsay Homme led the visitors from Pensacola, Fla. with 14 kills and .542 average.
The Lions will have a week to recover from the loss as they prepare for one of the biggest matches of 2011 when they travel to face #2 Tampa on Friday. Things are scheduled to get underway at 7:00 p.m. in the Bob Martinez Sports Center on the University of Tampa campus.
