Rampf advances to Friday’s final in NCAA 3000m steeplechase

BRADENTON, Fla. – Saint Leo junior Colett Rampf advanced to the women's 3000m steeplechase finals during Thursday competition at the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at IMG Academy.

Rampf won her heat and finished first overall in the preliminaries with a time of 10:23.91.

She will be making her second straight appearance in the 3000m steeplechase final, after finishing fifth in the event at the 2016 NCAA outdoor track championships with a time of 10:23.86. Rampf also won her heat during the 2016 preliminaries.

Rampf ran among the top five for the entire race, and pulled into the lead during the last lap. Among those in her heat was Western State's Alicja Konieczek, who was the top seeded runner in the 3000m steeplechase coming into the championship. Konieczek was second both in the heat and overall with a time of 10:25.16.

Minnesota-Duluth's Breanna Colbenson (10:26.37) and Hillsdale's Molly Oren (10:28.26) also both advanced to Friday's final race; both runners had seed times that placed them among the top three qualifiers in the event.

Friday's women's 3000m steeplechase final will take place at 7:15 p.m. at the IMG Academy stadium in Bradenton.
