#29 Women's tennis takes down #25 FSC, 5-4

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 29 Saint Leo women's tennis team took down the No. 25 Florida Southern Moccasins, 5-4, in Sunshine State Conference action on Wednesday evening in Lakeland.

The Lions jumped out to a 2-1 after doubles play, and that ended up being a key factor in the match against the Mocs.

The other key factor? Madeleine Gauthier.

With the match tied, 4-4, Gauthier trailed in No. 5 singles after losing the opening set, 6-7. The sophomore from The Woodlands, Texas, stepped up and took the final two sets, 7-5, 6-4, to seal the win for the Lions.

The Lions saw Kristyna Jurkova earn a 6-2, 6-4, win at No. 3 singles, while Katherine Zaatini earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.

In doubles action, Gauthier paired with Marine Beugre-Guyot to win a point at No. 1 flight, 8-2. Maja Pindelska and Zaatini earned an 8-4 win at No. 2 singles.

Saint Leo improved to 9-5 and 5-3 in Sunshine State Conference play. The Lions wrap up the regular season by hosting No. 2 Lynn on Friday morning at 10 a.m. for Senior Day where the Lions will honor Zaatini, Beugre-Guyot, and Anastasia Wagner.
