SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's tennis team earned the No. 4 ranking in the 2016 Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Team National Ranking that was announced on Nov. 21.

"I think our team is highly motivated as their goal has been to break through the barrier of getting to the National Semifinal, which they have done three out of the last four years," Head Coach Chad Berryhill. "Although our ranking is high, we are hungry to reach the highest level and make the final this year. We understand that nothing will be handed to us and we need to earn our spot through hard work and being a great team. I definitely think we are off to a good start."

The Lions finished 2015-16 as the No. 3 team in the national rankings, and were NCAA Semifinalists at the national tournament. They ended the season with a 23-3 record.

Earlier this month, the Lions earned the No. 2 seed in the South Region to Lynn. Lynn also claimed the No. 3 spot in the national rankings.

Senior Marine Beugre-Guyot was given the No. 24 ranking in the ITA National Singles Ranking. She was also picked as the No. 7 singles player in the South Region.

"We can either use the ranking as motivation to improve or we can view it as pressure. Our team knows how to handle the privilege of being highly ranked and we will train every day to reach our goals to be the best team in the country."
