Third-Seeded Lions Fall to Top-Seed Barry, 5-0 in SSC Championship Match

No. 7 Saint Leo Unable to Topple No. 1-ranked Bucs

WINTER PARK, Fla. The third-seed and No. 7-ranked Saint Leo women's tennis team put up a good fight, but was unable to topple the top-seed and No. 1 ranked Barry University Buccaneers in the Sunshine State Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Martin Tennis Complex.  The Lions earn SSC Tournament Runner-Up for the second-straight season.

The loss drops Saint Leo to a mark of 19-5 on the season, while Barry extends its record to 23-1.

The Bucs held onto a 3-0 lead after doubles action, beginning with the tandem of Karina Goria and Blanka Szavay defeating Maria Benkirane and Adrianna Daszkiewicz, 8-1 at the No. 3 position.  The No. 6-ranked duo of Emma Onila and Linda Fritschken were given a hard time by Laura Kemkes and Anastasia Wagner at No. 2 doubles, but earned an 8-5 win.

The 25th-ranked pair of Kimmy Twelker and Anaeve Pain earned an 8-3 win over Coralie Pesenti and Paula Montoya at the No. 1 slot to conclude doubles play.

Singles action saw seventh-ranked Onila defeat Pesenti 6-0, 6-0 in the top flight for the Bucs' fourth win of the day, and Twelker defeated Daszkiewicz 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 to clinch the victory.
