Lions Match Highest Ranking in Program History

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's tennis team climbed one rung to No. 7 on the latest ITA Division II national rankings, it was announced Wednesday.  Saint Leo also sits third in the South Region.

The seventh-place position marks the highest the Lions have ever placed on the poll in program history.  Saint Leo first checked in at No. 7 back on February 27, 2013, and remained at the position through the May 1, 2013 poll.  The Lions closed out their 2013 spring campaign ranked 13th, and have held onto that spot until the most recent poll.

With a 13-3 record so far this season, the Lions have put themselves in good position to close out the remainder of the season with plenty of strength.  Saint Leo's three losses came at the hands of teams all ranked in the top five, and since then, the Lions have racked up an 11-match win streak.

Only two other Sunshine State Conference school ranks higher than the Lions on the latest national poll as Barry checks in at no. 1, and Lynn comes in at No. 5.  Rollins sits close behind the Lions, earning a nod for eighth, while Florida Southern gets tabbed 10th.

The Saint Leo women's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, March 29, when they travel to Melbourne, Fla. to take on Florida Tech in Sunshine State Conference action.  For more information, fans can visit SaintLeoLions.com.
