No. 12 Women’s Tennis Ranked Second in Initial ITA South Region Standings

SKILLMAN, NJ – The 12th-ranked Saint Leo women's tennis team sits in the second spot in the first 2013 International Tennis Association (ITA) South Region poll released on Thursday morning.

The Lions sit behind fellow Sunshine State Conference institution Barry University as the Buccaneers' perfect 4-0 record puts them in the top spot.  In an unfamiliar spot behind the Lions sits Lynn University in third after the Fighting Knights surrendered a 5-4 decision to Saint Leo last Sunday.  West Florida and Tampa round out the top five in the region after the teams have passed the first reporting marker.

Coach James Bryce's crew has started 2013 off in amazing fashion, defeating Lynn for the first time ever en route to a 5-1 overall record and a 2-0 mark in conference.  The Lions' only setback came at the hands of top-ranked and defending national champion Armstrong.  Even in a loss, the Lions managed a silver lining as the doubles tandem of Laura Kemkes and Emily Singleton upset the nation's top-ranked Armstrong duo.

The Lions now hit the road for three consecutive matches with their first stop in West Palm Beach to face Palm Beach Atlantic on February 23.  The match against the Sailfish is scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m.
