SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's tennis player Laura Kemkes was selected an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American; it was announced Wednesday by ITA officials.
The top-20 players in singles and top-10 teams in doubles earned All-America recognition.
"Laura has had a fantastic first two years at Saint Leo," said Head Coach James Bryce. "She has earned and deserves this honor due to her hard work and commitment. To play number one in the SSC is a tough task and she has taken on this role and shown her true qualities. I am looking forward to seeing what the next two years have instore for her as well."
Kemkes, finishing the year 14th in the country, amassed a 16-4 overall singles record, including a 5-2 SSC record. Spending the entire season at top-flight, the Berlin, Germany native registered a season-high six match singles winning streak.
Additionally, Kemkes went 6-3 against nationally ranked opponents.
The sophomore fell just short of All-America honors on the doubles side as the duo of Emily Singleton and Kemkes finished 12th in the country, sporting an 18-5 doubles record out of the top-flight spot.
In total eight Sunshine State Conference student-athletes earned the distinct honor.
