Bryce Reveals Women’s Tennis 2012 Schedule

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Head Tennis Coach James Bryce has formally announced his women's 2012 regular season schedule. In total, the Lions will compete in 23 matches, highlighted by 14 home contests and a four-game road swing through Alabama.

Additionally, the Lions will participate in 17 regional contests, as well as their typical eight-team Sunshine State Conference schedule. The SSC Tournament is scheduled for April 18-22 and will be hosted by Barry University.

"The women will play a highly competitive schedule this year which will challenge them both physically and mentally," said Bryce. "We begin the year with key regional and conference matches which will challenge us to be consistent from the start. If we can play at our highest ability from the first serve, I believe we can be competitive as we move towards the conference and the NCAA Tournament."

The Lions get their first taste of regional action when they open the season against at home Palm Beach Atlantic (Feb. 4).  Following their first road test of the year, a showdown with Tampa (Feb. 8), Saint Leo will open its home SSC schedule against national powerhouse, Barry (Feb.11).

After a non-conference tilt with Eckerd (Feb. 14), the Lions will challenge three consecutive SSC opponents on the road as the Lions will visit Lynn (Feb. 18), Nova Southeastern (Feb. 19), and Florida Tech (Feb. 24).

A head-to-head battle with cross-state nemesis Rollins (Feb. 25) is next up for the Lions, before opening March on the road in Alabama. The four-game Alabama swing is the longest road trip of the season and has Saint Leo taking on Stillman (Mar. 2), North Alabama  and Delta State (Mar. 3) in a rare doubleheader, and Alabama-Huntsville (Mar. 4).

The road trip soon gives way to the Lions longest home stretch of the season as they take nine-straight opponents at the Saint Leo Tennis Center. Visits from Columbus State (Mar. 9), Florida Southern (Mar. 29) and New Orleans (Mar. 31), will highlight the Lions month-long stay at home.

Two SSC challenges await the Lions in April, as Saint Leo hosts Tampa (Apr. 4) and travels to St. Petersburg to battle Eckerd (Apr. 10). The Lions will close the regular season with a Senior Day confrontation against Embry-Riddle (Apr. 14).
