Women's Tennis Chosen All-Academic Team; Trio Named All-Scholar

Ebner, McDonald, and Kemkes Selected ITA All-Scholar Athletes

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's tennis team was selected as one of 32 Division II competitors to earn Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team honors. Highlighting the team nod was the individual selections of Caroline EbnerJeanette McDonald and Laura Kemkes to the ITA All-Scholar Athletes squad.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2010 and spring 2011).

On the individual side, three Lions earned ITA All-Scholar accolades as Ebner, McDonald and Kemkes represented the Green & Gold.

Ebner, playing out of sixth flight for the majority of the season, posted nine wins on the single side and 12 victories in doubles.

McDonald combined for 33 victories last season, including 18 on the doubles side.  In singles, the senior competed out of the No.2 slot and posted a 15-8 record.

Kemkes was the Lions All-Sunshine State Conference representative as she earned honorable mention accolades. She, like McDonald, also tabulated 33 wins, including a team-best 17-4 record from third flight singles.

For each, it is their first selection to the distinct squad.

On the accomplishment, Coach James Bryce stated, "I am very happy for the ladies and their commitment to academic excellence. This was one of our goals for the year and I am particularly proud of those who made the Scholar Athlete list."

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: One - be a varsity letter winner, two - have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and three - have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
