Women's Tennis to Backdraw After 5-0 Loss to Barry

Lions Drop Opening Match of SSC Tournament

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The No.27-ranked Saint Leo women's tennis team (14-9) fell to the No.4-ranked and two-seeded Barry Buccaneers (18-1), 5-0, Thursday morning in quarterfinal action from the Sunshine State Conference Tournament from Sanlando Park.Box Score

The loss puts the Lions, who enter the tournament as the No.7 seeded team, in the Friday morning backdraw match where they will be met by the six-seeded Panthers of Florida Tech. The match is slated to begin at 9:00 a.m. from the Sanlando Tennis Complex.

Despite forcing the Buccaneers to play at the top of their game in singles, the Lions couldn't overcome a 3-0 doubles deficit.

Causing the most noise for the Green & Gold in doubles was the No.3 pair ofJeanette McDonald and Adrianna Daszkiewicz as they fell at the No.3 spot, 8-2.

Bethania Laan and Laura Kemkesdropped an 8-1 decision at No.1 while Selma Hidass and Caroline Ebner lost, 8-0 in the three slot.

In singles, the Lions were receiving outstanding performances from Kemkes and Selma Hidass as they were leading their match at the No.3 and No.4 spots, 6-2 and 6-4, respectively.

Unfortunately, Barry proved to be too strong as they claimed the necessary five points with wins at No.5 and No.6
