Women's Tennis Drops Backdraw Contest to Florida Tech, 5-2

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – In day two of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, the Saint Leo women's tennis team (14-10) dropped a 5-2, backdraw decision to SSC challenger Florida Tech, Friday afternoon from Sanlando Park.

The Lions will conclude the tournament on Saturday, April 15 when they take on the University of Tampa in the consolation 7th-place match.

Facing a 2-1 deficit out of doubles, the Lions saw only one win in singles as the Panthers collected three wins to solidify the match.

After the first two doubles matches went on the side of the Panthers, the Lions No.3 pair of Jeanette McDonald andAdrianna Daszkiewicz gave Saint Leo forward momentum heading into singles as they dusted the Tech pair of Abbey Keister and Alexis Weining, 8-4.

Daszkiewicz quickly tied the match at two apiece as her 6-3, 6-1 win at No.5 singles gave the Lions a chance at victory.

Unfortunately, Panther wins at the No.6, No.1, and No.2 positions secured the match and a spot in the fifth-place match consolation match for Florida Tech.

First serve for the Lions and Spartans is set for 9:00 a.m.
