LAKELAND, Fla. – The No.7- seeded Saint Leo women’s tennis team (7-15) fell in its back draw match to No.6-seeded Nova Southeastern University (8-12) 5-0, Friday afternoon from Dave Beerman Tennis Facility in Lakeland, Fla.
The squad dropped each of their doubles contests, before NSU took the first two matches of singles play to complete the win. The Sharks advance to the fifth-place match, while SLU falls into the seventh-place match.
The Lions No. 1 doubles duo of Jeanette McDonald and Shaena Keefe did their best to upset the tandem of Karolina Porizkova and Justine Feaster. Unfortunately, the pair got to within 7-4 before NSU tallied the final point to solidify the win.
Singles play didn’t fall on the side of the Green & Gold, but that wasn’t due to lack of effort as both Christine Clyne and Chloe Andersson battled their way through tough opponents at No. 3 and 5 singles. Still, NSU managed to take their matches in straight-sets 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0.
The Lions will return to the court one final time in 2010 as they take part in the seventh-place match against Eckerd. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. from the Dave Beerman Tennis Facility.
