SAINT LEO, Fla. – Jeanette McDonald was tabbed Sunshine State Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by SSC Commissioner Jay Jones.
For the week, the junior posted a 5-1 overall record in helping the team to a 3-0 weekly mark. The Spring Hill, Fla. native posted three doubles wins, while taking two-of-three matches in singles play, each at the No. 1 position.
Opening the week with a 7-2 non-conference win over Eckerd, she posted a 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 win over Emmy Laing. She also teamed with Shaena Keefe for an 8-6 doubles win over Laing and Stephanie Jenks. In a 6-3 victory against Lake Superior State, McDonald downed Adrienne DiVito 6-2, 6-1 in singles and joined Keefe for a 9-8 doubles win against DiVito and Carolyn Pumford. Rounding out the week with a hard-fought 5-4 decision over Michigan Tech, McDonald and Keefe notched a point with an 8-5 doubles win over Ploy Suthijindawong and Nathalia Rodelli.
McDonald is the first women’s tennis player to earn the nod since Gina Schifano earned the unique distinction in 2007.
She is the also the 18th Saint Leo student athlete to earn player of the week honors this 2009-2010 athletic year.
